Quinton Rampage Jackson v Jon Bones Jones - The press conference for UFC 135 was held today. The main event will feature former UFC LHW Champion Rampage Jackson squaring off against current UFC LHW Champion Jon Jones for the LHW Championship. Jones coming off the destruction of Mauricio Shogun Rua to win the belt, will face a very tough test in Jackson in his young career. "I respect his accomplishment's and what he has done for the sport and look forward putting this win on my resume," stated Jones.
The two got into a small war of words with Rampage saying he was going to destroy Jones and mocking him during the staredown. While I look forward to this fight, I don't see how it won't be completely one sided. I'm a fan of Rampage and have been for many years, since his epic slams in Pride. Even with that I see Jones just demolishing Rampage without breaking much of a sweat. The biggest recent win for Rampage was against Machida and that was a split decision (one in which I thought Machida won...and so did Rampage if you seen the fight). Rampage doesn't look to be motivated at this point in his career. The fight he had against Rashad Evans, in which there was enough trash talk to motivate a monk, he came out very lackluster and dropped a decision.
Jones on the other hand has been on the complete opposite swing. Jones has yet to even be tested, destroying every opponent he has faced including Shogun Rua. With every fight Jones has had he just keeps getting leaps and bounds better and better. He is fast, he is strong, his reach is the longest in UFC history. On top of all of that, his wrestling is the best in the division and is striking is dynamic and unorthodox and extremely effective. Jones has yet to be short of any motivation for a fight as well. His mental prep for a fight is unlike any other fighter I have ever seen. And if you were thinking maybe Jones was lacking in cardio, think again. He went 3 hard rounds with Shogun and was fresh.
This fight will be short and brutal. Rampage got in a dig at Jones in saying that Shogun was rusty and out of shape due to the knee surgeries and layoff before the fight with Jones. Jones laughed off the comment and will use it as fuel come fight time. I will be cheering for Rampage to win the fight, but I will be cheering for a loser. Rampage not only loses but loses in highlight reel fashion.
