When at your auction draft, there are many things to think about. You have to think about the players you want, how much you are willing to spend, which bye weeks players have, and also about any other fantasy owners bidding on your player. A million things a minute are going through your head, so why am I talking about bidding up other players your competition is going for. Well, because it is one of the most effective ways to get the players you want for the price you want.
You need to set limits to your players you are going for and be sure not to exceed those limits. Every fantasy owner probably has a list also. What your job needs to be when your not actually bidding for players you want is to bid up everyone else. This technique is tough but, can be very rewarding. It's all about timing and reading how badly the other owners want the player they are bidding on.
Rule #1: Know how much the player is ACTUALLY worth. Once you go past that amount the bidding will slow down, but if you can make your counter bidder spend even $1 more dollar, it will be worth it.
Rule #2: Follow the lead of the aggressive bidder. If he bids fast, or out bids you fast, do the same to him. If he starts slowing down, it means he is thinking about stopping, and will probably only bid one or two more times.
Rule #3: You have to keep your poker face. Don't let it be known you are bidding someone up because it can be done to you as well. If you think your being bid up, let the person bidding you up take that player, if he knows you are willing to not buy a player you wanted, they will soon stop.
